I would like to welcome you to the new section of the Embassy’s website, titled “Doing Business in the Philippines”.
One of the Norwegian embassies’ common overall objectives is to support Norwegian industries abroad and to assist our companies with their internationalisation process. This is also the case for the Embassy in Manila. The Philippines and Norway have good, although a little limited, bilateral economic and commercial relations, which the embassy would like to further enhance. One, rather recent contribution to this relationship are the investments made by the Norwegian Pension Fund. The fund has now invested more than PHP 5 billion in more than 20 Philippine companies. Additonally and more visibly, Norwegian enterprises are engaged in various sectors in the Philippines, and the presence in the maritime industry is particularly strong. Areas of potential growth for Norwegian companies are not limited to the maritime sector, but also include renewable energy, hydropower, fisheries, fertilizers, information technology (IT) and business process outsourcing (BPO), just to name a few.
The Embassy is confident that the Philippines in the years ahead will be a more important market for Norwegian companies. Then it is a precondition that more Norwegian companies become aware of the business opportunities in this country. In such a context, Philippine companies should also be challenged to do the same in Norway. Even though Norway is a small nation, it is among the biggest in the world in several key economic sectors, such as oil and gas, hydropower, maritime, and fisheries.
The recently established Philippines Norway Business Council (PNBC) will together with the Embassy provide assistance to Norwegian companies interested in the Philippine market. The “Doing Business in the Philippines” section provides an introduction and gives some guidelines on business investments and establishments. I hope this website will be a useful instrument for interested companies, so that we in the years ahead will see a substantial increase in the commercial co-operation between Norway and the Philippines.
