NB: Faroe Islands and Greenland
For Seafarers that are going to the Faroe Islands or Greenland, the application will be forwarded (electronically) to the Danish Immigration Service for decision. The processing time is therefore longer (usually 3-4 weeks). The applicant will be notified as soon as the decision is received.
TRANSIT (joining vessel)
Applications must be registered on the Application Potal. Supporting documents may be handed in at the Embassy between 9am-10am. Appointments should not be booked at the Application Portal for these applicants.
Seafarers going to Greenland or the Faroe Islands must also submit the Schengen visa application form - duly completed, dated and signed by the applicant.
List of supporting documents needed to apply for transit visa (joining vessel):
- One passport size picture with white background and not older than 6 months (please attach photos on the application form using glue or adhesive tape).
- Original passport (valid for at least 3 months after departure from Schengen area) plus one copy. Passport covers (plastic, leather and others) should be removed.
- Original valid seaman's book plus one copy
- Guarantee letter from local manning/crewing agent.
If the seafarer is covered by Travel Medical Insurance (valid for all Schengen States / Europe / Worldwide with a minimum cover of EUR 35 000,-), this should be stated in the letter from the Employer.
- Letter of invitation from the principal in Norway, Denmark or Iceland indicating the seafarer(s) name, date of birth, place/name of port, name of vessel and date of joining.
Please make sure that the invitation is written on the company's letterhead and duly signed by the authorized representative in Norway, Denmark or Iceland.
The invitation must be sent directly to the seafarer / company representative, not to the Embassy.
- Contract of employment duly signed by both employer and employee duly signed and stamped by POEA with OEC (plus one copy - original to be presented)
- Airline ticket reservation
BUSINESS (training/conference/meeting)
Applications must be registered on the Application Potal. Supporting documents may be handed in at the Embassy between 9am-10am. Appointments should not be booked at the Application Portal for these applicants.
Seafarers going to Greenland or the Faroe Islands must also submit the Schengen visa application form - duly completed, dated and signed by the applicant.

- Original “Certificate of Employment” stating position, length of service, salary, purpose of trip and duration of training.
- Letter of invitation from the principal in Norway, Denmark or Iceland.

The invitation must be sent directly to the seafarer / company representative, not to the Embassy.
- Airline ticket or reservation
- Travel Medical Insurance valid to all Schengen countries with minimum amount insured of 30,000 Euros covering medical and repatriation expenses.
If the seafarer is covered by the company's insurance, the manning agent/company is requested to indicate in their guarantee letter and certify that the insurance benefits and coverage satisfy the Schengen requirement stated above.
Processing time
For applications lodged using the Application Portal:
- Transit visa - 1 to 2 days
- Schengen visa - 8 to 12 days (may be extended up to 30 days if the case requires further scrutiny)
For Paper Application
- Transit visa - 15 days
- Schengen visa - 15 days (may be extended up to 30 days if the case requires further scrutiny)
Applications to Greenland or the Faroe Islands: 3-4 weeks (handled by the Danish Immigration Service)
Payment:
EUR 60,- to be paid online using VISA or Mastercard (after filling in the application form online).
For Paper Applications - Non- Refundable handling fee is due upon submission of the application. PHP 3,600 (adults) / PHP 1800 (Children aged 6-12) in form of a MANAGER'S CHECK payable to THE ROYAL NORWEGIAN EMBASSY. The manager's check may be purchased from any major commercial banks with branches in Makati City. Cash payment will not be accepted.
